Aleksi Leppa took the 300m Rifle 3 Positions Men title at the ISSF World Championship Cairo 2026 on Saturday, winning a close contest against Poland’s Maciej Kowalewicz on inner tens. Both finished with 591 points, but Finland’s Leppa claimed gold with 29 inner tens to Kowalewicz’s 22. Norway’s Jon-Hermann Hegg completed the individual podium, before joining his teammates in celebrating a second gold for Norway in the team event.
The margin between the top two was as narrow as it gets on the scoreboard. Leppa put together a balanced performance across all three positions, scoring 196 in kneeling, a perfect 200 in prone and 195 in standing. Kowalewicz matched his rival’s overall total with 195 in kneeling, 200 in prone and 196 in standing, but his 22 inner tens left him just short of the title.

Hegg finished third with 589-23x. The Norwegian scored 196 in kneeling, 198 in prone and 195 in standing to secure the bronze medal.

Poland’s Tomasz Bartnik came close to the individual podium, finishing fourth with 588-27x. Austria’s Patrick Diem followed in fifth with 588-17x, while Czechia’s Jiri Privratsky placed sixth with 587-30x.
Norway turns individual strength into team gold

Hegg’s individual bronze was followed by a team victory for Norway, who topped the standings with 1,760-53x. Alongside Hegg, Rasmus Loeberg and Ole Martin Halvorsen combined for the winning total.

Austria took silver with 1,753-66x, with Patrick Diem, Andreas Thum and Alexander Schmirl making up the team. Switzerland completed the podium with 1,751-65x through Gilles Vincent Dufaux, Pascal Bachmann-Senti and Simon Maag.

Germany finished fourth on 1,742-74x, just ahead of Czechia, whose 1,741-73x placed them fifth. Egypt finished sixth with 1,673-42x.

The men’s competition delivered two different stories on the same day: an individual title decided by inner tens and a team contest in which Norway came out on top. The championship continues at Egypt’s International Olympic City, with the 300m Rifle programme running until 20 October.
