The agreement marks an important milestone for the promotion of shooting sport in the Republic of Korea, with KBS to broadcast the upcoming ISSF World Championship Doha 2026. It also represents the return of an ISSF event to the country's national broadcaster after almost two decades. Meanwhile, KBS is eager to become the host broadcaster of ISSF World Championship Korea 2027 which come backs to the peninsular after 10 years.
The partnership is the result of the close cooperation between the ISSF and the Korea Shooting Federation, which has worked to expand the visibility and popularity of shooting sport across the country. Interest in the sport has grown significantly since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, helping create new opportunities to bring international shooting competitions to a wider audience.
KBS has already demonstrated its commitment to the sport by broadcasting three domestic shooting events over the past two years, while the federation has introduced innovative technologies to enhance the viewing experience. During domestic competitions, AI-powered technology has been used to display athletes' heart rates in real time by analysing subtle physical indicators, providing spectators with a new insight into the pressure and precision required at the highest level.
The broadcast of ISSF events on one of Korea's leading television networks is expected to further increase the sport's visibility, inspire future generations of athletes and strengthen the momentum ahead of the ISSF World Championship Korea 2027.
ISSF President Luciano Rossi welcomed the agreement:
"The return of ISSF competitions to Korean national television is excellent news for our sport. We thank the Korea Shooting Federation for its commitment to promoting shooting sport and for helping bring our competitions to a wider audience. Expanding our television coverage remains one of the ISSF's strategic priorities, and this partnership is another important step in increasing the global visibility of our sport."
The ISSF looks forward to working closely with the Korea Shooting Federation and KBS as shooting sport continues to grow its audience in one of the world's strongest and most successful shooting nations.
