International Shooting Sport Federation President Luciano Rossi and Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo showed their appreciation for the Government of Greece during a ceremony with the Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Ioannis Vroutsis, honouring him for his support of the 2025 ISSF World Championship Shotgun.

A meeting was held between the ISSF and Mr. Vroutsis, who is representing the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. There, Mr. Vroutsis was given the Diploma of Honour and the ISSF Medal in recognition of the support given by the national government in hosting the ISSF World Championship at the Malakasa Shooting Range near Athens.

They also met with Georgios Mavrotas, the General Secretary of Sport of the Government of Greece and five-time Olympian. At the Opening Ceremony to the ISSF World Championship Shotgun, he was one of many dignitaries given honours by the administration, given the Diploma of Honour too.

The ISSF has been impressed by the support from the Greek Government, the Hellenic Olympic Committee and most importantly, the Hellenic Shooting Federation in supporting preparations for the ISSF World Championship Shotgun and look forward to an exciting competition.

Spyros Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committees and IOC Member; Isidoros Kouvelos, President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee; Athanasios Papageorgiou, President of the Hellenic Shooting Federation and Ioannis Kilakos, President of the Malakasa Shooting Centre; were all given ISSF Friendship Awards during the Opening Ceremony too.

President Rossi spoke of his gratitude for all delegates who played their part in the successful hosting of the World Championship and stated his wish to continue working closely with the Hellenic Shooting Federation going forward.

Mr. Capralos later visited the range with the President and the Secretary General and spoke highly of the work conducted by the ISSF under President Rossi's leadership and of the event so far. After the historical success of having confirmed shotgun as part of the 2027 European Youth Olympic Festival programme in Lignano Sabbiadoro, President Rossi strongly asked that all rifle and pistol events be present there too, with discussions ongoing regarding this.

Further strengthening of ties can be seen between Mr. Capralos and President Rossi, with discussions also taking place about the sport's inclusion on the 2027 European Games programme in Istanbul. Their great working relationship continues to show the willingness to cooperate between the ISSF and the International Olympic Committee and European Olympic Committees.
Following on from these discussions, they would meet with Harry Theoharis, Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance at the range, where focus centred on the future of the Hellenic Shooting Federation.

The ISSF team said they were very happy with the quality of the venue and were touched by the hospitality shown by the organisers and the national institutions in welcoming the shooting sport family to Greece.

Delegates in attendance were not just supportive of the competition being in Greece, but of the ISSF's work under President Rossi's leadership, thanking him and the team for their cooperation to make these events take place seamlessly.
