Sebastian Bermudez Labbe of Guatemala and Brazil’s Georgia Furquim Bastos claimed the respective men’s and women’s skeet Olympic Quota places for Paris 2024 at the Olympic Qualification CAT XIV Shotgun in the Dominican Republic capital of Santo Domingo.
Labbe, 22, competing as an independent athlete given Guatemala’s current suspension from the Olympic Movement, earned gold in this Championship of the Americas with a score of 54, finishing two clear of Mexico’s Luis Gallardo Oliveros.
Mexico also claimed bronze through Jesus Balboa Gonzalez, who finished one place ahead of another independent athlete, Santiago Romero Juarez, with Peru’s Nicolas Pacheco Espinosa fifth and Phillip Russell Jungman of the United States sixth.
Bastos, 27, had claimed the women’s skeet Quota Place in qualifying for the final, where all the other competitors represented countries who had already achieved this distinction.
The Brazilian, who qualified fifth, finished sixth in a final won by Peru’s Daniella Borda Olachea, who beat Julia Nelson of the United States to gold 53-52.
Bronze went to Chile’s Francisca Crovetto Chadid, with Gabriela Rodriguez of Mexico fourth and Alishia Fayth Layne of United States fifth.
