Rio 2016 silver medalist Kim Jonghyun, from the Republic of Korea, claimed the men’s 50m Rifle Prone gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in Munich, today.
The 31-year old shooter secured the top of the podium at the very last shot, as he fired a strong 10.7 to close the match with 248.3 points.
The Korean athlete finished just 0.1 point ahead of silver medalist Stian Bogar of Norway, 40, who scored 10.0 on his last shot to finish in second place with 248.2 points.
Both Kim and Bogar had never won an ISSF World Cup medal, before.
Austria’s Thomas Mathis, 27, took today’s bronze with 227.1 points, collecting his second ISSF world cup medal in career, the first one being a silver won here in Munich back in 2013.
21-year old Petr Nymbursky, from the Czech Republic, followed the medalists in 4th place with 205.7 points. The Czech athlete led the match through the first five shots, then slid down in second after the tenth shot, moved back in the lead after shot 12, and eventually landed in fourth place as he fired a 9.9 on his 20th and last shot.
The only German finalist, 20-year old Maximilian Dallinger, making his first appearance in an ISSF World Cup, took the 5th place with 184.5 points. First-time finalists Remi Moreno Flores (FRA) and James Daly (AUS) followed him taking 6th and 7th place with 163.2 and 143.0 points, respectively.
Sydney 2000’s Olympic silver medalist and 13-time ISSF world cup medalist Torben Grimmel of Danmark, 41, was the first to be eliminated after shot 12 in the final match, placing in 8th with 121.4 points.
The ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Munich, Germany, will continue this afternoon with the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol final, to be held at 16.00 (GMT+2). The final will be broadcasted live on www.issf-sports.org.
